Babita Phogat Twitter Controversy: Jwala Gutta Burns With Rage, 'Indian Sports Contingent Has Muslims, How's She Going To Face Them?'
Indian Badminton player Jwala Gutta is known for voicing her fierce opinion on almost everything. This time around, the Commonwealth Games’ gold medalist shared her two cents on a fellow sportsperson and wrestler Babita Phogat, who has been grabbing the headlines for her controversial tweets, accusing a certain community of purposely spreading the Coronavirus in India. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Jwala slammed Babita for fuelling communal hatred and disturbing the harmony of India. She also accused Babita Phogat and Rangoli Chandel of inciting ‘verbal violence’.

Jwala said, “If not physically, many people are verbally inciting violence. Not just Babita, even Kangana’s (Ranaut) sister called for people to be shot and referred to them as Nazis. What kind of language is this? Who are you to call out anyone? There’s a reason that there is a law in place. If something distasteful is being done or said, report it to the police.” She continued, “Babita wrote something on Twitter over the lynching of sadhus saying itna sannata kyu hai…is she waiting for a crime to happen so she can be proved right? It’s appalling, the kind of statements that are being made.”

As a sportsperson, the Arjuna Awardee feels ashamed and that she found it necessary to speak up as an Indian citizen, “Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isai, sab bhai bhai...bachpan se sikhaya hai humein. Why can’t we learn how to co-exist? It’s high time we stop these Hindu-Muslim talks and learn to be human. If you can’t preach love, at least don’t preach hate. As a sportsperson, I feel ashamed. Our Indian contingent also has Muslims. How is she (Phogat) going to face them? I feel I had to speak up as a citizen of this country and a proud Indian!”

Not just Jwala, several celebrities like Swara Bhasker and Ajaz Khan among others had slammed the wrestler for inciting hatred. (ALSO READ - Post Communal Tweet Controversy, Wrestler Babita Phogat Says She Needs No Followers Who Get Upset And Unfollow Her; 'Ibbe Ram Ram')
